The Kupffer cell secretes interleukin 6 (1L6) and tumor necrosis factor-a (which are usually involved in activating the adult immune system), and the stellate cells secrete the paracrine factors hepcrtocyte growth factor (HGF, or scatter factor) and TGF-p.
The specialized blood vessels of the liver also produce HGF as well as Wnt2 (Ding et al. 2010).
Hepatocytes that are still connected to one another in an epithelium cannot respond to HGF, however.
